You are looking for a crystal clear sea, white beaches, and lovely cocktails? Don’t miss out Varadero! Honestly: what I am summing up above is not my priority when I travel. I attach more value to places where I can do lots of activities, go explore and get the ‘’travel feeling’’…, you know what I mean?  Still, I’m so happy we visited this part of Cuba. More specified: it’s just one big paradise. See the pictures and subscriptions below in the ‘’you show me’’ series of Varadero to find out why!

You can do swimming here as an activity. Look at this! A free, big swimming pool for all. Little secret: first time swimming we forgot that we had our bed & breakfast keys in our pocket and lost it in the sea….. After swimming 1 hour we found the keys back! That is how clear the water was.

Sunset VaraderoEnjoy your evening after a long walk along the beach with some great company, a glass of wine, a picnic and this stunning sunset. Do I need to say more?

Old schoolbusThere are lots of tourists facilities like good restaurants, coconut taxi’s and bars like ‘’bodeguita del medio’’ (see TripAdvisor). The picture I show above is not a regular taxi. It’s a bus to fill with as many Cuban people as possible because transport is super expensive for the locals… Beach destination or not: you will still see the reality of daily life for many locals.

Sunrise, VaraderoGet up early, go for a run. It’s hard to get lost in this village with just one road. And great to for taking pictures, especially because the island is so small you have a sunset on one side and sunrise on the other side, just 10 minutes walking away from each other.

Lizard, Varadero, CubaThere are lots of lovely ‘’casa particulars’’ to sleep. It will cost you around $20,-/25,-. In return, you achieve lots of freedom: your own bathroom, part of the garden and a pair of keys from the house. If you want to book in advance you can visit the website ”homestay”. Besides you have the possibility to stay in a few-stars-hotels. There are lots of Americans and Canadian people in this area because their travel agencies offer super cheap organized travel plans to this place (for example $300,- for one week including food and the flight).
